Greetings Brothers and Friends,

Welcome to the home of the Wilmington Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Celebrating over 100 Years of Achievement in Kappa Alpha Psi and serving the metropolitan Wilmington community proudly since March 8, 1947. As the premier chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, the Wilmington Alumni Chapter is truly dedicated to the task of honorable achievement in every field of human endeavor and encourages its members to make positive contributions to our society and our community at large.

Through our illustrious Guide Right Program we provide service, training experience and life lessons of successful men at the disposal of youth for educational and occupational guidance, primarily inspirational and informational in character.

Our Kappa League Program provides educational, occupational and social guidance to male students in middle schools, throughout various schools in the New Castle County area. The objective of the Wilmington Alumni Chapter’s Kappa League Program is to provide lessons and education on topics, such as self-identity, discipline, academic achievement, the importance of higher education, career development, etiquette, communication skills, health awareness, and safety. The Kappa League Program also provides guidance and assistance for parents in regard to college preparation, financial aid, and mediation and interaction with children in an effort to help resolve problems. In addition, the Kappa League Program sponsors trips to ball games, museums, theaters, colleges and universities, and other activities in an effort to expose students to various positive aspects of society.

The flagship of the Wilmington Alumni Chapter’s Guide Right Program is the Achievers program co-sponsored with the Wilmington Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. Each year, approximately 30 African-American young men in their junior and senior years of high school participate in this rigorous six-month mentoring program. Throughout the duration of the Achievers program, these young men participate in a series of activities and workshops that focus on financial responsibility, proper etiquette, setting and achieving goals, essay writing, health and wellness, positive decision making, etc. Achievers also participate in several Heritage Trips, as well as a weekend college tour with the undergraduate members of Kappa Alpha Psi on the campus of the University of Delaware.

The Achievers program culminates with a black tie event in which the young men get to showcase all of the skills that they have learned during the session to their families and supporters in the community. Throughout this program the young men raise money for scholarships that they can take with them to the undergraduate institution of their choice. This program has awarded over $500,000 to date.

Guide Right Programs that the Wilmington Alumni Chapter sponsors also include:

While the Wilmington Alumni Chapter has received much recognition and accolades for its Guide Right and community service programs, its members always strive to do more and to make a difference in the community. Thus the Brothers of the Wilmington Alumni Chapter recognized that there was a need to provide a safe environment for the youth in one of the most underserved areas in Wilmington's east side. In order to address that need, the Wilmington Alumni Chapter established Kappa Mainstream Leadership, our non-profit arm to help accomplish this goal. Today, the brothers of Kappa Mainstream Leadership and the Wilmington Alumni Chapter are currently in the midst of a large scale capital campaign to transform a former warehouse on the east side of Wilmington, into a gleaming community-based Achievement Center.

The Achievement Center is located on Vandever Avenue and serves as a recreational center for the youth and residents in the community. The Achievement Center also serves as the home for a re-entry program for ex-offenders. The re-entry program will provide resources, education, as well as job training, substance abuse and family re-integration counseling, in an effort to curb recidivism, reduce the number of African American men in the prison system, as well as reduce the number of households without fathers.

This is an ambitious project that brings pride not only Wilmington Alumni Chapter, Kappa Mainstream Leadership, but the entire City of Wilmington as well.

This is but a snap shot of the Wilmington Alumni Chapter’s contributions to the greater Wilmington community. As such, we invite you and encourage you to participate in all of our events, activities, programs, and initiatives. We thank you for your support and look forward to serving the Wilmington community for many years to come.

Yours in the Bond and Best Regards,
